Technical History of PEX System
PEX (Cross-linked Polyethylene) is an advanced petrochemical material derived from ethylene, a byproduct of petroleum. Initially existing as a gas or granules, ethylene is polymerized into polyethylene, a common thermoplastic. Traditional polyethylene softens with heat and loses its mechanical properties after repeated exposure.
In the 20th century, German chemist Thomas Engel revolutionized the material by introducing a cross-linking process, transforming it into a three-dimensional network. This cross-linked structure gives PEX exceptional durability, heat resistance, and long-term performance.
Unlike standard polyethylene, PEX retains its strength under high temperatures and does not deform, making it ideal for industrial, plumbing, and heating applications. It belongs to the thermoset polymer family and is widely valued for its stability and resilience.

Grafting and crosslinking occur in one production step. Crosslinking completes in 3–7 days with sunlight and humidity. In dry climates, cables must be pre-wetted before exposure. This process ensures efficiency and reliable material performance in various environments.

LAD X-Link contains all required additives—no premixing needed except for optional colorants. It’s available with custom colors and UV stabilizers upon request, making it suitable for overhead cable insulation with excellent weather resistance and long-term outdoor durability.
